Manuel Antonio Itinerary: 2, 3, 5 & 7 Days (2026)
Day-by-day Manuel Antonio itineraries for 2, 3, 5, and 7 days. Activity timing, booking links, and local tips from Costa Rica travel planners.
Quick answer: Most travelers spend 2 to 4 days in Manuel Antonio. 2 days covers the national park and a beach day. 3 days adds a catamaran cruise or rafting. 5 days lets you explore Nauyaca Waterfalls, Dominical, and deeper wildlife experiences. 7 days turns Manuel Antonio into a full base for the Central Pacific coast. Below are day-by-day itineraries for each length.
The question is not whether Manuel Antonio deserves your time. It does. The question is how many days to give it. We have planned hundreds of Manuel Antonio trips through Toorizta, and the sweet spot for most travelers is 3 to 4 days. That gives you the national park, a water activity, a beach day, and enough breathing room to not feel rushed. But we have built itineraries here for every length, because some people are passing through on a multi-destination trip and some are settling in for a week.
Every activity below links to a bookable experience on Toorizta where available.

2-Day Manuel Antonio Itinerary
This is the express version. You see the highlights without lingering. Best for travelers who are combining Manuel Antonio with Arenal, Monteverde, or another destination.
Day 1: National Park + Beach
7:00 AM: Arrive at Manuel Antonio National Park with a naturalist guide. The park opens at 7:00 AM (closed Tuesdays). A guided walk takes 2 to 3 hours and dramatically increases your wildlife sightings: three species of monkeys, two-toed and three-toed sloths, toucans, and scarlet macaws. Book a guided park tour.
10:00 AM: Head to Playa Manuel Antonio inside the park for swimming. Calm turquoise water, white sand, and monkeys on the beach. Pack reef-safe sunscreen and water.
12:30 PM: Exit the park. Lunch at one of the hillside restaurants with ocean views.
3:00 PM: Relax at the hotel pool or walk to Playa Espadilla Norte (the free public beach outside the park) for a sunset.
Day 2: Water Activity + Departure
8:00 AM: Morning snorkeling at Playa Biesanz (the best snorkeling cove in the area, free access). Or swap for a morning mangrove boat tour at Damas Island if wildlife is more your thing.
11:00 AM: Check out. Shuttle to your next destination. If heading to Arenal, the drive is about 4 hours. To SJO airport, about 3 hours. Transport options and pricing.
Dallas’s tip: If you only have 2 days, do the national park on day 1 and leave the beach and water activity for day 2 morning. Trying to cram everything into day 1 means you rush the park, which is the one thing you should not rush.
3-Day Manuel Antonio Itinerary
The most popular itinerary we build. Three days gives you the park, a signature water experience, a beach day, and a night activity without feeling packed.
Day 1: National Park + Night Tour
7:00 AM: Guided walk through Manuel Antonio National Park. 2 to 3 hours with a naturalist guide. Book the guided tour.
10:00 AM: Beach time at Playa Manuel Antonio inside the park. Swim, sunbathe, watch the monkeys.
1:00 PM: Lunch. Settle in at your hotel.
5:30 PM: Night wildlife tour. Red-eyed tree frogs, sleeping toucans, kinkajous, and UV-glowing insects. 2 hours, $45 to $55 per person. A completely different experience from the daytime park.
Day 2: Catamaran + Sunset
9:00 AM: Relaxed morning. Snorkeling at Playa Biesanz or pool time at the hotel.
12:00 PM: Lunch at a Quepos marina restaurant (Gabriella’s or Emilio’s for seafood).
2:00 PM: Sunset catamaran tour. 3.5 hours departing from Marina Pez Vela. Snorkeling stop, open bar, dolphins, Pacific sunset from the water. The single best non-park experience in Manuel Antonio. Book the catamaran.
Day 3: Adventure or Beach + Departure
Option A (Adventure): Morning Savegre River rafting (Class II to III, half day, includes lunch). Back by early afternoon for your shuttle.
Option B (Relaxed): Beach morning at Playa Espadilla Norte. Surf lesson ($95, book here) or just sun and swim. Afternoon departure.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many days should I spend in Manuel Antonio?
3 days is the sweet spot for most travelers. You get the national park, a catamaran cruise, a beach day, and a night tour without rushing. 5 days if you want to add rafting and day trips.
What is the best order for activities in Manuel Antonio?
Day 1: national park (arrive early for wildlife). Day 2: catamaran in the afternoon. Day 3: adventure activity (rafting or zipline) in the morning. This sequence gives you the best energy flow and avoids burnout.
Can I do Manuel Antonio and Arenal in one trip?
Yes. The classic Costa Rica two-destination trip is 3 days Manuel Antonio + 3 to 4 days Arenal. The shuttle between them is about 4 hours. See transport options.
Is 2 days enough for Manuel Antonio?
Enough to see the national park and one beach, yes. Enough to feel like you experienced the destination, not quite. If possible, add a third day.
What should I skip if I only have 2 days?
Skip rafting and day trips (save those for a longer stay). Focus on the national park with a guide and either the catamaran or Playa Biesanz snorkeling.
